7:28 When ¹  Jesus finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed by his teaching,

22:35 And one of them, an expert in religious law, ²  asked him a question to test ³  him:

[7:28]  ¹ tn Grk “And it happened when.” The introductory phrase καὶ ἐγένετο (kai egeneto, “it happened that”) is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

[22:35]  ² tn Traditionally, “a lawyer.” This was an expert in the interpretation of the Mosaic law.

[22:35]  ³ tn Grk “testing.” The participle, however, is telic in force.
